BENGALURU: Former chief minister and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy and Mandya MP Sumalatha, who were locked in a bitter battle for a week over illegal mining in Mandya and safety of KRS dam, have retreated from their position.
Both leaders decided to put the war of words on the backburner in a near-coordinated move. While Kumaraswamy issued a statement on Twitter that he will not be speaking on the issue anymore, Sumalatha on Sunday reciprocated the gesture by asking her supporters and Ambareesh’s fans to remain calm and tone down the attack on Kumaraswamy.
The week-long spat appeared to be a continuation of the 2019 parliamentary election rivalry in Mandya, where Sumalatha defeated Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil.
