There's nothing fashion addicts were craving more than a fabulous red carpet, and the Cannes Film Festival was just what the doctor ordered. After the event was cancelled last year in light of the pandemic, all eyes were glued to this season's fashion gala as the 74th edition of the annual event kicked off with much pomp and glamour.

However, in a shocking event, British model and actress Jodie Turner-Smith, best known for like ‘Without Remorse’, ‘The Last Ship’, ‘Nightflyers’, ‘Queen’ to name a few, was robbed of her jewels, worth several tens of thousands of euros, as reported by Variety.

According to the report, robbers broke into Jodie's room at the Marriott hotel on the Croisette and exercised the loot. Among the fine pieces of jewellery was her mother's wedding ring.

The actress was moved to another hotel and was given a large security, since she was in town with her one-year-old daughter.

Judie, who was reportedly in Cannes for the first time, became a target after she sported gold and diamond jewellery from the Gucci High Jewellery line at the 'After Yang' premiere.

Turner-Smith tweeted: “didn’t think i would be spending 2.5 hours in the police station on my final day in Cannes, but here we are…”

On a related note, Indian beauties who are regulars at the Cannes, like Sonam Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, gave the event a miss due to travel retractions.

Cannes Film Festival, one of the most prestigious movie galas in the world, was initially scheduled to take place from May 11 to May 22 but was pushed by two months due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Last year's edition was cancelled due to the pandemic and replaced by a low-key event in October, showcasing short films but without the A-list movie stars, directors and producers.
