TO THE EDITOR:
"Biden's goal of 500,000 EV chargers intact after deal with senators" (autonews.com, June 24) mentioned $7.5 billion for electric vehicle charging stations across the U.S.
I would suggest spending quite a bit less to first harden our grid against an electromagnetic pulse-type event by naturally occurring solar storm or otherwise.
China and Russia have taken these steps to shore up their respective grid infrastructures. We talk in the U.S. about doing it, but national leadership is clearly lacking on this subject.
It's absolutely vital to have a hardened, safe and reliable grid in place. To think otherwise is reckless going forward.
