Flash floods wreck havoc in Dharamshala

Dharamshala, Jul 12 ( UNI) More than half a dozen vehicles and few motorcycles were washed away, besides some houses located by the rivers were also damaged in the Kangra valley.
Dharamshala town witnessed 211 mm rain during the past 24 hours, Kangra town experienced 148 mm, Palampur got 164.5 mm, Shahpur had maximum rains measuring 264 mm during past 24 hours.
Following heavy rains in Baghsunag, flash floods washed away more than half a dozen vehicles besides some motorcycles too were washed away.
Kangra Senior Superintendent of Police Vimukt Ranjan told UNI that there was no cloud burst in the area however illegal encroachment on Dobh nallah resulted in the today's flash flood.
He said that number of houses too were damaged besides few bridges were also damaged due to these flash floods today.
Maximum houses were damaged at Chaitru.
Authorities declared an alert following the flash floods.
Baghsunag and Mcleodgang were full of tourists today however all of them were safe.
The tourists faced inconvenience due to unexpected flash floods in the area.
Police and authorities shifted residents of Chaitru to safer sites as the river was swelling.
The concert shed in the cremation ground in the outskirts of Dharamshala town was washed away. Some bridges too were damaged due to the flash floods.
River Manji, Manooni, Gaj, Banner and
Churan Khad were all swollen following heavy rains in the valley.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Nipun Jindal and SSP Kangra Vimukt Rajan rushed to the spot.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Nipun Jindal said that till July 13, all the tourists visiting Dharamshala have been instructed by the district administration to postpone their tour for the timebeing so that the tourists do not face any kind of inconvenience. He said that tourists who have already arrived in Dharamsala and its surrounding tourist places have also been advised to stay where they are as roads etc. have also been damaged due to heavy rains, which may cause problems in movement. Deputy Commissioner Dr Nipun Jindal said that the district administration is also making elaborate arrangements for the safety of the tourists staying in Dharamsala and its surrounding areas, so do not make any haste and ensure full cooperation to the administration and in any way. Deputy Commissioner Dr Nipun Jindal said that the damage caused in Dharamsala and its adjoining areas is being reviewed and teams have been constituted for relief and rehabilitation. He said that the possibility of bad weather has been issued by the Meteorological Department, so tourists as well as common citizens have been asked to take precautions.
