Samsung's free but ad-supported streaming service Samsung TV Plus is now available on the web and for Chromecast devices. It did not make any formal announcement for the expansion and instead rolled it out quietly. This is the first time since its debut in 2016 that the service is available for non-Samsung devices which makes it a huge step.

Samsung TV Plus is essentially a linear live TV streaming service. It means it features various streaming channels that follow a fixed streaming schedule. The users can browse the schedule to see what content will be streamed and what day. This makes it different from on-demand streaming services where users can choose the content and start streaming it whenever they want.

It was previously exclusive to Samsung smartphones, tablets, and smart TVs. It is available in a large number of countries and most recently, it was expanded to the Indian market. The newest expansion of the platform will ensure that anyone can start streaming TV Plus without owning a Samsung device. The best one is support for the web version where one only needs access to a web browser and visit the official website i.e. samsungtvplus.com.

As for the Chromecast support, it allows users to cast Samsung TV Plus from their smartphones to any other Chromecast-enabled device like a smart TV. It should be noted that Android app for the service is still limited to Android devices but one can choose to sideload the APK as a workaround. They will only have to sign into their Samsung accounts to get started.

Even though Samsung has not made a proper announcement, it is undoubtedly a huge step. The expansion will allow the company to reach a huge number of users around the world. It will give it a significant advantage over the competition
