Staten Island social media campaign honored by the state

Recently announced that VISIT Staten Island has received a Tourism Excellence Award for the “Most Significant COVID Response In Support of the Consumer” from the New State Tourism Industry Association (NYSTIA), Borough President, James Oddo.


This virtual ceremony took place in the spring 2021. It acknowledged the work completed during crisis situations of 2020. VISIT Staten Island got the award for the creation of its “Stay on Staten Island” social media campaign. It was managed by Oddo’s Office of Tourism and Cultural Affairs.


This “Stay on Staten Island” social media campaign gave confidence to the locals to rediscover their hometown virtually as well as supporting the local cultural organizations and businesses that remained opened althrough the pandemic.


“Stay on Staten Island” soon turned out to be an outlet for residents who were keen on doing things during the stay-at-home times in the early days of the pandemic.


The award was presented to Deputy Chief of Staff Jennifer Sammartino and Colleen Siuzadk, manager of Communications and External Affiars.


Oddo appreciated Sammartino and Siuzadk for their hard work to bring “Staten Island to the forefront of the tourism industry as they continue to encourage residents to explore their own hometown.”
