Nagpur: The leopard sighted at Ordnance Factory (OF) area a few days ago seems to be the same one whose image was captured in a camera trap in Ambazari last month. While the current location of the leopard is not known, forest officials believe it may have already left OF land and made its way back to Ambazari or Gorewada. Bharat Hada, deputy conservator of forests (Nagpur) said they compared the pugmarks found at OF with those at Ambazari. “The pugmarks are almost similar. This comparison is not 100% accurate hence I can’t say that it belongs to the same leopard, but it does seem very similar,” said Hada. Forest officials are monitoring the OF area constantly but so far no confirmation of leopard’s movement in that zone has been reported. Hada said “OF land is vast, probably around a thousand hectares. There is a part which is uninhabited and that is probably where the leopard must have visited. We feel it might have already gone back to the forest, but are awaiting confirmation.” Another theory is that this particular leopard may be regularly visiting the uninhabited part for which it may have passed through areas where human movement is common. Earlier reports of leopard being sighted in IT Park had put the city on high alert, but Hada says there is no evidence to link the OF leopard. “In Nagpur city, we never found any pugmarks. So, there is no way to confirm whether this was the same big cat,” said Hada. Also, the reason for this repeated movement outside of Ambazari is not know. Hada said, “There is enough prey base in Ambazari and more than one leopard can exist there.”
