LUCKNOW: The 31-year-old resident doctor of Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS), Dr Sharda Suman, who has been battling for life for the last over two months, will be airlifted to KIMS, Hyderabad, on Sunday for lung transplant surgery.
The decision has been taken after the Hyderabad hospital, which has expertise in lung transplant, gave the green signal to the request made by RMLIMS. The mandatory RT-PCR test required before shifting also come out to be negative on Saturday.
A team of experts from KIMS arrived in Lucknow late Saturday night for a pre-transplant assessment. “The team will examine the doctor at 7am on Sunday before taking her to airport on Advanced Life Support Ambulance at 9 am. From there, she will be airlifted to Hyderabad by an air ambulance,” said RMLIMS spokesperson Dr Srikesh Singh.
The doctor is currently on ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) machine that pumps and oxygenates a patient’s blood outside the body, allowing the heart and lungs to rest. “ECMO support will be maintained throughout the journey. Upon reaching KIMS, she will be first stabilized after which tests will be done to assess her vitals and match compatibility with the cadaveric organ to be used for replacement,” he added. On July 6, the government had sanctioned Rs 1.5 crore on the directions of CM Yogi Adityanath for lung transplant.
