Vijay Rupani will inaugurate a slew of projects during his one-day visit to the Diamond City on Sunday. Apart from dedicating the Pal-Umra bridge to the public, the CM will also inaugurate other projects including housing schemes built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY).
The CM will inaugurate different projects developed at a combined cost of Rs 1,073 crore during his visit. The inauguration of the Pal-Umra bridge will be held at the site while all other functions are slated to be held at Sanjeev Kumar Auditorium in Adajan. It is the first major function of the
Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) being held after the elections of the local body.
The Pal-Umra bridge on Tapi river, built at a cost of Rs 90 crore, is one of the most awaited projects. The project had got delayed after owners of 22 houses that needed to be demolished for construction of the approach road to the bridge knocked on the doors of
High Court for stalling the move.
The CM will inaugurate the housing projects of 4,311 dwellings that have been developed at the cost of Rs 307.40 crore. A draw for a total 3,554 houses developed by SMC and Surat Urban Development Authority (
SUDA) will also be held.
After arriving in the city, Rupani will first visit
Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) at
Khajod to assess the progress. “The CM will be visiting SDB to have a look at the progress of the construction work,” said an SDB official.
Later in the day, Rupani will unveil a book ‘Antar Na Zarukhe thi’ authored by former cabinet minister Narottam Patel at Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) convention hall.
