HYDERABAD: In view of the pandemic, the Council for the Indian
School Certificate Examinations (CICSE) has made changes to the
ICSE (class 10) and ISC (class 12)
syllabus. The move will affect close to 4,000 ICSE and ISC students in Hyderabad who are set to appear for board exams in 2022.
The CICSE released revised syllabus of total 15 ICSE and 12 ISC subjects on its official website on Friday evening. The list includes revisions to syllabi of subjects such as chemistry, physics, biology etc for ICSE and accounts, commerce, economics, business studies, history, political science for ISC. According to city principals, there has been no
change in syllabus for physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics.
“Considering many students appear for competitive exams such as NEET, there was no change in the four core subjects. However, other subjects such as English, accountancy, psychology etc. have had few additions and deletions,” said Maya Sukumaran, principal of Gitanjali Senior School, adding that the curriculum can be comfortably covered with efforts from all stakeholders.
As per analysis made by subject teachers from various schools, genetics topic that was excluded by the CICSE last year has been reintroduced for
ICSE students this year. In English, the number of dramas, number of pros and poetry have been revised for both ICSE and ISC students.
“For ICSE students, thoughtful additions have been worked out in physics. Inclusion of electromagnetism is a good move as it will have to be studied in class 12 too. For commerce and accounts, syllabus continues to be vast for online understanding despite the reduction,” said Amrita Chandra, vice-principal of Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet.
Few sub-topics in psychology, economics, political science have been reduced this year. CICSE is now in the process of carrying out syllabus reduction in several other subjects which will be made available on the website soon.
