PATNA: With a drop in the number of fresh Covid-19 cases and increase in recoveries, active cases have also dipped considerably in Bihar. The figures, which had touched the one lakh-mark two months ago, have recorded a 10-time fall.
For instance, there were 1,10,804 active cases in the state on May 9, which came down to 1,018 on July 9. Similarly, Patna, which had over 22,589 active cases on May 9, recorded 179 cases on July 9.
According to the data shared by the health department, Patna was the only district with 100 active cases on July 9. While Darbhanga and Kishanganj had nearly 50 cases, all other districts had less than 50. Kaimur, Aurangabad and Buxar, which had less than 10 active cases on Friday, had registered 379, 3,495 and 1,216 active cases, respectively, on May 9.
Although a significant dip in the number of active cases is being witnessed across the state, experts fear that violation of safety norms and Covid-appropriate behaviour may lead to the third wave of the pandemic.
“We may have overcome the second wave, but the threat of the third wave looms large over the state. It is, therefore, important for us to adopt Covid-appropriate behaviour,” Dr Ajay Kumar, the senior vice-president of Bihar branch of the Indian Medical Association, told TOI on Saturday.
He also laid stress on the need for vaccination as “it may save Bihar from another wave”.
