Nagpur: District’s new collector Vimala R, an IAS officer of 2009 batch, who took over the reign from Ravindra Thakare on Saturday, seemed to have hit the right button on the first day at the office by convening a meeting of the officials concerned regarding Covid-19 scenario and third wave preparations. The former mission director for the Jal Jeevan Mission of government of Maharashtra met civil surgeon Dr Devendra Paturkar, district health officer (DHO) Dr Deepak Shelokar and others from district health team who briefed the new collector about Covid management plans of the district. “Every (Covid) wave is a fresh challenge but our district seems to be prepared. We have to now take forward the work that was already done or undertaken by my predecessor,” said Vimala, a recipient of Arun Bongirwar public service excellence award. Vimala, a blogger and Hindi poet, also said Covid is an unpredictable disease and hence adequate preparations should be made for the unforeseen. “I took stock of the Covid situation with detailed discussions with the officials regarding the third wave and what preparations are required to be undertaken. I had discussions on a couple of other projects that need to be undertaken,” she said, adding that Nagpur was a significant district and she expected co-operations from the officials and citizens alike. “I believe in team work,” Vimala said. Several officials, including resident collector Avinash Katode, too were present during the introductions of the different unit incharges and their briefings.
