Nai Basti area of Maqsoodabad in Bithoor area of the district on Friday night.
The woman was alone at home when the incident occurred. An empty cartridge was recovered from the spot.
Senior police officials including ACP Kalyanpur Dinesh Shukla reached the spot and initiated investigation.
Shashi alias Angoori, daughter of Ramdas, a resident of Shivli’s Singhpur, was married to one Santosh Kumar of Atholi village of Auraiya about 12 years ago.
However, Shashi since the past six years was staying separately following a dispute with her husband. The couple had three sons.
Two sons used to live with Shashi while one son lived with her husband.
Shashi had also bought a plot in Maqsoodabad and built a house and was staying in it for the past two years.
“As per her siblings, she had come back to her Nai Basti Maqsoodabad house from her maternal home on Friday. Her two sons were at their maternal grand-parents home. At 2 o’clock in the night, the people of the locality came across a gunshot sound. When they woke up in the morning, they saw Shashi lying in a pool of blood near the cot on the terrace of her house. Soon, they informed them following which they rushed to the spot and alerted the local police,” said a police official privy to the investigation.
“Subsequently, the police along with a forensic team reached the spot and broke open the locks to gain access into the house. During investigation, it came to fore that assailants had shot in the head of Shashi. A cartridge was found on the cot on which she was sleeping, besides two cups of tea and packets of chips recovered from the house. We are investigating the matter. Preliminary findings indicated that someone known to the deceased had committed the murder. The body has been dispatched to mortuary for postmortem,” said ACP Kalyanpur Dinesh Shukla.
