Kanpur: Tension prevailed in Badpura block of
Etawah district following firing and stone pelting during the voting for the post of block head on Saturday afternoon.
Later, in a purported video which went viral on social media, ASP Etawah Prashant Kumar Prasad could be heard saying that the BJP people had brought bombs, besides they had pelted bricks stones on policemen and also misbehaved with him. “Sir, they had brought stones and misbehaved with me. The BJP people had brought bombs too,” ASP (City) Prashant Kumar Prasad, was heard saying this during a telephonic conversation with his seniors.
The video footage was apparently shot during the ongoing voting for the post of block head in the district, on Saturday afternoon, when ASP City Prashant Kumar Prasad tried to pacify the dispute between BJP and SP supporters, who had assembled near the barricades with their leaders to support their respective candidates.
Later, additional police force was requisitioned to disperse the trouble makers. Cops also fired tear gas shells to control the crowd.
SSP Etawah Brijesh Kumar, meanwhile, told reporters that there were stone-pelting and firing incidents reported during polling at Badhpura block.
“Things were going on smoothly. People were maintaining a distance of 500 metres. Then suddenly people came close to 200 metres where the polling was underway. When the policemen stopped them near the barricade, the crowd pelted stones and also fired bullets. Policemen came into action and dispersed the mob by applying force. As of now the police is trying to zero in on the troublemakers with the help of video footage. Action would be taken, after their identification. Also, a case will be lodged on the basis of video footage,” said Singh.
On being questioned, if BJP workers will be booked, the SSP said, “We are scanning the footage and whoever will be found guilty, will face action. Nearly seven cartridges have been recovered from the spot.”
