District records 338 cases, 5th highest test positivity rate

Coimbatore: The district recorded 338 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Saturday, taking the case tally to 2,24,744. At 3.5%, the district recorded the fifth highest test positivity rate in the state on the day.
With 378 patients getting discharged from various treatment centres on the day, the active cases have slightly dipped to 4,108, while the number of recovered patients has shot up to 2,18,536.
The Covid-19 toll has, meanwhile, increased by three to 2,100 in the district, which had 6,231 vacant beds, including 513 ICU beds and 3,341 oxygen beds, on the day.
While the city limits accounted for 42.12% of the cases recorded in the past week, rural areas saw a minor spike in the cases. Areas such as Sulur, Thudiyalur and Karamadai accounted for 6.84 %, 8.27% and 9.84% of the cases, respectively, during the period.
The number of containment zones has dropped to 115 in the district. Of them, 65 containment zones are in the city corporation limits. Sulur and Karamadai blocks have 10 containment zones each, while Madukkarai block has eight containment zones. Valparai, Pollachi and Mettupalayam municipalities did not have a single containment zone as on Saturday.
City corporation commissioner Raja Gopal Sunkara visited the vaccination camps, where second dose of Covishield was administered on the people aged above 65 years, on the day.
