GURUGRAM: Residents of Sushant Lok- 1 and South City-2 have been getting erratic water supply for over a month now.
They said they receive water only four to five days a week, and that too for a limited period of time. Despite several complaints to the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), no action has been taken to improve the water distribution system, they alleged.
“We have been getting inadequate water supply for a month now, but civic bodies haven’t yet resolved the issue. Supply is limited to only 20-30 minutes at low pressure. Some lanes of C-Block haven’t got a single drop of water in the last three days,” Vanita Pasricha, a resident of Sushant Lok-1 said.
“Water demand sees a significant rise in summer, but the authorities are making no efforts to address our concerns despite repeated pleas,” she added.
Residents also complained that dirty water is being supplied to them.
Manish Kumar, who lives in the colony, said: “We are being supplied muddy water, which could pose a serious health hazard to us. It is also spoiling storage tanks and damaging our household appliances. The situation is becoming worse day-by-day and the erratic water supply is giving us a tough time in the heat.”
They alleged that builders are flouting the rules and have been using potable water for construction purposes which has compounded the water crisis in the area. Residents blamed the authorities for not keeping a check on the misuse and pilferage of water.
They also pointed out that water is being wasted through leakages as the pipelines are quite old and aren’t repaired in time.
In South City-2, residents are being forced to rely on private tankers to meet their daily requirements.
On the days water is supplied, the pressure is too low, causing shortage, they said. “For the last two days, there has been no water supply in D-Block. When we approach GMDA or MCG officials, they keep blaming each other instead of resolving the problem,” said Bhupinder Singh, a resident.
“It is a long-standing issue and we face a water crisis every other week, which is forcing us to shell out an extra Rs 500 each for water tankers to meet our daily needs. Moreover, the underground reservoir, which would provide some relief, has not been made operational yet,” Singh added.
While the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is in charge of supplying water to these colonies, MCG looks after the management of water distribution to the households.
A senior MCG official said supply has been affected in several areas of the city as GMDA is carrying out maintenance work.
“Supply has been restored by GMDA, but it will take some time to replenish the empty overhead tanks. It will be streamlined by Sunday,” the official said.
