Venkat Reddy on Sunday met Union tourism minister
G Kishan Reddy in Delhi and urged him to ensure that adequate funds are released for restoration, renovation and further development of Bhuvanagiri Fort.
In a representation submitted to the union minister, Venkat Reddy who is the local MP from
Bhuvanagiri Lok Sabha constituency, brought to his notice that the state government had proposed a rope way project which has been pending. Even tenders were invited but the project has been put on the backburner.
Stating that the history of the fort traces back to 10th century, he said initially
it was called Tribhuvanagiri, renamed later as Bhuvanagiri and eventually it is being called as Bhongir Fort. The town of
Bhuvanagiri/Bhongir derives its name from this splendid fort, which stands on a monolithic rock.
“It is spread over 50 acres at a height of about 500 feet over the top of a rock formation. It resembles an unusual egg-shape structure along with two main entry points in turn covered with huge rocks. The fort that is encircled in a moat has underground chamber that is believed to connect
Golconda Fort located 50 km away,” Venkat Reddy said.
After scaling the highest point. the Bhongir fort offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire region. Visitors can find an impressive collection of armoury. stables, trap doors and other tools of historical interest.
Tourism department and adventure enthusiasts offer special trekking tours to ascend the fort, he stated in his representation.
