Govt urged to review school fees, salary order

Imphal, July 09 2021: While urging director of education (S) to review the order issued on June 21 regarding school fees and salary of school staffers, All Manipur Students Guardians' Organisation (AMS-GO) has submitted a memorandum to the chief minister on Friday demanding framing of an education policy for private and government aided schools in the state.

The memorandum signed by organisation secretary Sumati Sougrakpam pointed out that 80 per cent of the population in the state are living below poverty line.

Many of the people living out of their daily wages have been seriously impacted by Covid-19 for the last 16 months, she added.

Recalling the order issued by Education (S) director directing to pay 50 per cent of the monthly fees and 70 per cent of salary to staff of schools, she urged to reduce the monthly fees to 30 per cent and staff salary by 50 per cent similar to the previous academic year.

Demanding the government to frame an effective education policy so as to avoid monopoly and business motive management by founders of private schools and government aided schools, she urged to fix a specific number of students in a class from standard I to X.After thorough discussion, the organisation recommended to fix 50 students as upper limit of a class from standard I to X and 70 students for Class XI to XII.

The number of sections for a class should be restricted to only three sections, she added.

Sumati maintained that equality in admission fee and tuition fee for all schools will be a boon for the state.

This could prevent commercialisation of education in the state, she said.

God will surely bless the government if it formulates a tentative policy to provide free education to students in private and government aided schools during the pandemic, she added.
