RIP Kathi Mahesh: Actor-filmmaker-critic succumbs to injuries
Actor, writer, filmmaker and critic Mahesh Kathi is no more. He was battling for his life at a private hospital in Chennai after meeting with a road accident in Chandrasekharapuram village in Kodavalur Mandal of Nellore.

Talking to Hyderabad Times, the hospital management confirmed the news and said, “Kathi Mahesh passed away at 4 PM on July 10. His condition was serious since Friday night and he passed away due to respiratory complications.” On June 26, the actor was in his vehicle when it rammed into a container truck, leaving him severely injured. He was shifted to a private hospital in Chennai for treatment and the AP government even provided funds of Rs 17 lakh for it.

Last seen in Gopichand Malineni’s Ravi Teja and Shruti Haasan starrer Krack, Mahesh Kathi was known for being a film critic too. He gained fame after being a contestant on the Telugu version of Bigg Boss in season 1, hosted by Jr NTR. He started his career with Edari Varsham and was the co-writer of Minugurulu – the first Telugu script to be preserved in the Oscar Library’s permanent collection. It was also the first Telugu film to content for the Academy Awards in the Best Feature Film category.

Later on, he made the first crowdfunded short film in Telugu titled Pesarattu, which used flowcam technology popularised by Ram Gopal Varma. He also made the film Egise Tara Juvvalu which showed the need for developing a scientific curiosity in children. Unlike many of his counterparts, Mahesh Kathi was known for being vocal not just about social issues, but also for not mincing words when it came to politics, religion or prominent figures from the film industry.

Condolences pour in for his family on social media from the film industry and others.
