Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar was caught on camera slapping a party worker who tried to put his hand on his shoulder while trying to take a selfie with the leader.

In the video that has since gone viral, Shivakumar can be seen getting irritated by the action of the man, who tried to get close to him and pace along with him.

The Congress leader was in Mandya on Friday to check on the health of a party MP when the incident took place. When the party worker walking beside him tried to put his hands on the leader's shoulder, Shivakumar snapped back and slapped him.

In the video, the party worker can be seen walking close to Shivakumar and put his hand on his shoulder. This angered the Congress leader, who slapped him and told him to behave in front of the public. The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee chief, who appeared to lose cool, can then be heard telling the man, said to be a party worker: “…you should be responsible….”, before asking cameramen present there to delete the footage.

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) dubbed Shivakumar a "rowdy". Sharing the 2 minute video on official Twitter handle, the BJP said, "Being the president of a national party, it is unforgivable to publicly assault a man".

BJP national general secretary C T Ravi took to Twitter and asked, "Karnataka Congress President @DKShivakumar SLAPS his party worker in full public view. If this is how the “former shishya” of Kotwal Ramachandra treats his party worker, one can imagine what he would do with Others. Have you given DKS the “licence for violence”, @RahulGandhi?”.
