- Former Springbok loose forward Jacques Potgieter and his actor wife, Angelique Gerber, are the latest celebrity couple to find themselves at the centre of a social media cheating scandal.
- Instagram posts claiming the Cheetahs rugby player cheated on his wife was published on Jacques' personal Instagram account on Friday night.
- The rugby player has since addressed the shocking social media posts, saying his account was "hacked," and an apology has been issued on Angelique's personal Instagram account.
A week after Lee-Ann Liebenberg and Nicky van der Walt's alleged 'affair-drama,' played out on social media, South African rugby player Jacques Potgieter and his actor wife, Angelique Geber have found themselves in the same boat.
The couple, who married in 2016, have three young children together.
According to Jacques his Instagram account was hacked after a series of Instagram Stories was posted to his private account on Friday, which claimed he cheated on his wife.
The former Springbok loose forward is currently playing for the Cheetahs, who are campaigning in the Currie Cup.
On Friday, a now-deleted Instagram post, was published on Jacques' Instagram account alleging that he had cheated on his wife with women students at hangouts in Bloemfontein.
The caption was accompanied by an edited photo from the couple's wedding day, showing an arrow pointed towards Jacques' face with a vulgar slang word. Channel24 has copies of the original posts but has decided not to publish it.
The Instagram post was followed by an Instagram Stories post which claimed the rugby player asked women students for explicit photos and cheated on his wife.
Shortly thereafter, a cryptic post appeared on Angelique's Instagram Stories, in the same font and style, which said: "The truth always comes out."
Channel24 reached out to The Legacy Events, who is listed as the PR manager on Angelique's website, for comment on the allegations made on social media and was told: "I'm not involved in a management or PR level so, I can't comment. Best would be to contact them directly."
When asked for the relevant contact information, Channel24 was advised to contact the couple on social media.
Responding to Channel24's request for comment in an Instagram direct message, Jacques said: "All my accounts were hacked."
Addressing his followers in an Instagram Stories post, doubling down on the fact that his account was breached by someone "without a brain," the former Bulls rugby player assured fans that the accusations made in the posts were false.
Angelique, who did not respond to Channel24's request at the time of publishing, issued an apology on Instagram on Saturday, saying: "I want to apologise for the inappropriate posts that included me and which were posted without my consent.
"It was deeply upsetting to me. My legal team is in the process of investigating the matter."
