NOIDA: In another move, Bhartiya Kisan Sangathan’s (BKS) Noida wing has demanded from Noida authority that sector 50’s JJ colony slum dwellers be shifted to the shramik kunj in Sector 122 or alternate arrangements be made for them.
BKS maintained that about 100 families currently live in the JJ colony in the sector amidst fear of house collapse due to the big drain near its vicinity and cited that many such incidents have occurred in the past.
“If the slum dwellers of sector 50 JJ colony are not shifted to the Shramik Kunj flat in sector 122, we will stage a sit-in dharna at the Noida Authority office. About 100 families have been living in sector 50’s JJ colony for many years, but due to the drain here, there is often a danger of the slums getting submerged especially during heavy showers during monsoon. Earlier, incidents of house collapse have been reported in the area including one about a couple of days back where a few slums got destroyed. Many people narrowly escaped getting hurt. Despite repeated appeals to authority officials for a safer location for them, there is no redress on the matter,” said Rajendra Yadav, national president BKS.
Yadav maintained that while many houses have collapsed here due to lack of concrete foundations, a lot of families have been affected. “All the inhabitants are living under fear of an untoward incident waiting to happen. Neither the Noida MLA or MP of the district have taken note of their plight. We have given a petition to ACP Shyam Jeet Singh who had visited the site during a protest dharna by the inhabitants earlier this month where we have demanded alternate living conditions for the inhabitants, else we will protest in front of the authority office,” said Yadav.
