51% get jab in Bengaluru’s govt and aided colleges

BENGALURU: Over 51.1% of students and staff in Bengaluru’s government and aided degree colleges have been vaccinated against Covid-19, according to the higher education department.
The city comprises eight BBMP zones and the total number of students and staff in government and aided degree colleges is 62,255. Of these, 31,826 have been vaccinated as of July 8.
Among students, 31,147 students of 59,179 (52.6%) have been vaccinated. Of 3,076 staff, 2518 (81.9%) have been vaccinated. Several colleges have been conducting drives on campuses for students and staff.
Higher education minister CN Ashwath Narayan had earlier announced that statewide, 65.1% of students and staff of government and aided degree colleges had been vaccinated till July 7.
The government has been trying to complete vaccination of all students and staff before reopening colleges. While the higher education minister has said no date has been fixed for reopening, officials in the chief minister’s office said they’re looking at July 19. VTU has announced exam dates for pending odd semester papers.
