The Health Ministry on Saturday warned against the complacency behaviour in people regarding Covid-19 protocols, saying that lowering the guard has resulted in the surge in coronavirus cases in other countries.
With reference to disquieting visuals and videos of holiday and tourist destinations, which show hundreds flocking to hill stations like Himachal Pradesh’s Manali, the Centre said such large crowds are cause for concern and reminded people the virus spreads aggressively in crowded places.
The Centre said that following Covid-appropriate behaviour is crucial to stop another wave, even though the decline in infection is a positive trend in the country. Niti Aayog member Dr V.K. Paul, said we cannot lower our guard noting that a new risk is being seen at tourist spots where a gathering of crowds being seen, social distancing and mask protocol is not being followed. This is a serious cause of concern, he added.
The government expressed its concern referring to a spike in Covid cases in the United Kingdom, and other countries. The health ministry joint secretary, Lav Agarwal, said the United Kingdom has witnessed an increase in the average daily new case after EURO2020 football matches. Also, Bangladesh has seen more new cases in the third wave as compared to the second wave, in view of which the government has imposed a lockdown in the country, he added.

Agarwal also highlighted a video doing rounds on social media where hundreds of tourists thronged the Kempty Falls in Mussoorie. He rhetorically said if we doing the right things, is it not an open invitation for #COVID19 virus to infect us, he asked.
Meanwhile, India has reported 42,766 daily new Covid-19 cases, in the last 24 hours, pushing the country’s total tally to 30,795,716, according to data from the Union health ministry.
