The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has finalized parking rates after the parking policy was notified recently
AHMEDABAD: On-street parking will no longer be a right, but a luxury for Amdavadis who will soon be charged a fee for it. Parking on the street outside residential societies due to lack of space inside will cost anywhere between Rs 300 and Rs 1,500 per month, depending upon the jantri rate of the area.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has finalized parking rates after the parking policy was notified recently. The rates will be implemented after the policy is approved by the state government. Sources say rates can change by 5-10% in its final avatar.
Residents will be required to opt for a monthly, quarterly, or an annual permit for parking outside societies.
A senior AMC official told TOI that monthly pass to park outside societies will depend upon the area’s jantri rate.

Time limit for night parking on roads
“For parking outside residential societies, we will clearly distinguish on-street permit rates for day and night. Night time fee may vary between Rs 300 and Rs 1,500 depending on the jantri rate of the area and whether the road stretch is in a commercial or certain highend residential area,” said a senior AMC official in the estate department.
There will also be a time limit for night parking on roads. “Night permit holders will have to remove their vehicles from the street the following morning by 9am after which it can be towed away."
On busy commercial streets like Ashram Road, Nehrunagar, and C G Road, on-street monthly parking permit charges for showroom owners or office employees will range between Rs 1,500 and Rs 3,000 outside commercial complexes depending on the footfalls in the area. “The parking policy mandates that 40% of the parking area of the building has to be reserved for monthly permit holders,” said the AMC official.
Commercial and residential buildings can also monetize their parking by offering parking space to visitors. Parking during non-working days or holidays outside commercial buildings and offices is likely to be capped at Rs 20 per hour for a maximum of four hours. “AMC will charge Rs 5 while Rs 15 will go to residential or commercial buildings giving them a chance to earn," said another AMC official.
The rate has been kept consistent at Rs 20 per hour for the first four hours for parking on CG Road, SG Road and other main arterial roads that are home to commercial complexes and markets.
As per the new policy, parking for longer than four hours will cost more. “For every extra hour after the first four hours are up, people will be charged Rs 30. If a person parks for 12 hours, the parking cost alone would be Rs 320,” said the official.
AMC officials said this has been done to discourage extended parking of vehicles on main commercial roads without pinching shoppers, and also offer more space for walk-in customers.
“Opting for designated municipal parking areas will work out cheaper. For instance, for bizmen on CG Road, parking at the Navrangpura multi-level parking located 500-700m away will be cheaper at Rs 40 for eight hours. In case of monthly pass, this will come at an economical Rs 250-300 per month,” said the official.
