LUCKNOW: Adding a new milestone to its Covid-19 success story, Uttar Pradesh has become the first state in the country to conduct over 6 crore tests to screen coronavirus.
According to data from the state government, 6,01,01,058 Covid-19 tests have been done in the state since the onset of the pandemic in March 2020. Data from the Indian Council of Medical Education suggests that over 15% of the total tests done in the country were undertaken in Uttar Pradesh.
Additional chief secretary, information, Navneet Sehgal said the numbers speak for the state’s aggressive testing policy, which has been the backbone of containment, high recovery rate and low death rate.
2 cases in 41 districts, 13 deaths
An official statement said as a result of swift measures, micro-planning, alertness and an aggressive ‘Trace-Test-Treat’ approach to contain the virus, the state has also witnessed a steady decline in fresh cases and Covid deaths.
ACS, health and family welfare, Amit Mohan Prasad informed that just 90 new cases have surfaced in the past 24 hours — the lowest daily case count since March 1. A look at the bulletin indicated that 41 districts reported no case of Covid-19 infection in the last 24 hours, whereas 32 districts reported new cases in just single-digits.
He said that the cumulative test positive rate for UP has been around 2.8%, while the daily test positivity rate has come down to 0.04%. The state is left just 1,697 active cases. However, 13 deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours.
