Fresh trouble has started along the Assam-Mizoram border

People living along the Assam-Mizoram’s inter-state bordering areas alleged that they have been residing here for the last several decades; however people of Assam along with police are trying to evict them.

Fresh trouble has started along the Assam-Mizoram border. A grenade explosion took place along the bordering area.

Additional Director General of Police (Border) Harmeet Singh and Cachar district Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli visited the inter-state bordering areas.

Cachar district superintendent of police Nimbalkar Vaibhav Chandrakant told mediapersons that there was some explosion on the hill side. “We are investigating it.”

He said that there was encroachment from Mizoram side on Assam’s territory when Assam officials and workers were undertaking developmental works.

People living along the Assam-Mizoram’s inter-state bordering areas alleged that they have been residing here for the last several decades; however people of Assam along with police are trying to evict them.

Assam chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that some tension is going on in both Assam Nagaland and Assam Mizoram border. “Assam police has been deployed to protect the boundary but at same time Assam being the largest state or being the gateway to Northeast India we are open to mutual discussion. Our only thing is not to encroach on our land. We are ready to sit and talk.”

Chief secretary level talks were held on Friday and it was revealed that there may be an agreement between the two states.

Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla chaired a meeting in New Delhi which was attended by chief secretaries of both the state and Director General of police.

Chief secretary of Assam, Jishnu Barua told media persons, “We have made it clear there cannot be compromise on the territorial integrity of Assam.”

He added that encroachment that took place in the last one year must be removed.” There will be an agreement between the two states however Mizoram has sought some time.”

Recently, police from both Assam and Mizoram camped in Aitlang.

Assam police dismantled makeshift huts.

Assam government Secretary, Environment, Forest, Border Protection and Development Gyanendra Dev Tripathi accompanied by district officials visited the Assam-Mizoram trouble torn areas and talked to the local people and officials.

Mizoram’s share about 164.6 km long border with Assam's Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi districts.

Last month there was tension along the Assam-Mizoram border after houses were torched by miscreants in Gollacherra in Hailakandi district of Assam.

The border area along the Assam- Mizoram border witnessed flare up on October 9 last year.
