BHOPAL: The National Lok Adalat disposed of 6,017 cases awarding Rs 3,31,952,617 in settlement of cases in the district court, Bhopal, on Saturday.

National Lok Adalats are organised by the DLSA at regular intervals for amicable settlement. Civil cases, matrimonial cases, MACT cases and petty offence cases are mainly referred to the Lok Adalat. Lok Adalat is one of the alternative dispute redressal mechanisms and is a forum where disputes and cases pending in a court of law or at the pre-litigation stage are settled or compromised amicably. Lok Adalats have been given statutory status under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.

The following types of cases (pre-litigation and pending) were taken up for settlement in the National Lok Adalat:

At pre-litigation stage, NI Act cases under Section 13, bank recovery cases, labour†dispute cases, electricity and water bills (excluding non-compoundable) were taken up.

Pending cases which were taken up included criminal compoundable offences, NI Act cases under Section 138, bank recovery cases, MACT cases, labour dispute cases, electricity and water bills (excluding non-compoundable), matrimonial disputes, land acquisition cases and other civil cases.
