NOIDA: A security guard employed with a closed factory in Sector 8 allegedly beat up his wife with a stick and then smothered her with his hands on Tuesday evening.
Police said the guard, Subhash (37), who is from Pattiya village of Farrukkhabad district, had been staying on the factory premises with his wife Babli and three daughters. The couple had been married for 18 years and their youngest daughter is aged about three years.
Babli’s father Mahendra alleged that ties between the couple had strained because of Subhash’s drinking habits. “My daughter and her husband had been staying in Noida for the past 10 years. Subhash would frequently beat up my daughter. The couple’s eldest daughter would stay away from them because of the frequent quarrels,” he added.
Fed up with the alleged torture, Mahendra had brought back Babli home a few months ago. “A month and a half back, Subhash’s father called us and assured his son would not beat up my daughter any more. We believed him and allowed Babli to go back to Noida.
On the evening of July 6, we received a call from Subhash’s neighbour, who informed us that Babli had been killed,” Mahendra said.
He claimed that Subhash had asked his daughters to tell people that their mother had consumed poison. Subhash was arrested and charged with murder.
Munish Chauhan, the SHO of Sector 20 police station, said the FIR was lodged against Subhash after the autopsy report came on July 7. He was arrested the next day.
