In the view of skyrocketting prices of fuel, the Congress committe in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra on Thursday rallied on camels, horses, bullock carts and tongas to protest against the price hike. The party has observed a nation wide protest against the rising prices of petrol and diesel as the cost of petrol has crossed 100 Rs mark in many parts of the country.
A protestor said "We want to send a message to the Centre and demand an immediate reduction."
Besides a cycle morcha was also carried in Nagpur city to protest against the hike in prices of fuel and essential commodities. Congress workers led by the party's state unit chief Nana Patole and Maharashtra minister Sunil Kedar staged demonstrations at Sanvidhan square in Nagpur.
Addressing the media during the agitation, Patole said this was a state-wide protest against the injustice meted out by the Central government by rising the prices of fuel and essential commodities. Patole and Kedar countinued their cycle morcha against the fuel price hiked even after rains lashed. The Maharashtra Congress chief commenting over the price hike said that not only there is a need to change the Union Minister but also the Prime Minister.
Similary, in Mumbai, the protest was led by state education minister Varsha Gaikwad and Mumbai Guardian Minister Aslam Shaikh.
The Congress will raise this issue at various placed across Maharashtra till July 17, he said.
As of July 7, fuel prices have crossed the Rs 100-a-litre mark in at least 16 states, including Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, West Bengal, among others.
