NEW DELHI: Soon after effecting a major reshuffle in the Union council of ministers on Wednesday, PM Narendra Modi asserted that his government would continue working to build a strong and prosperous India.
“I congratulate all the colleagues who have taken oath today and wish them the very best for their ministerial tenure. We will continue working to fulfil aspirations of the people and build a strong and prosperous India,” the Prime Minister tweeted.
“I am fully confident that the entire ministry under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi will succeed in taking to welfare schemes of the government to each one in the country and will make their contributions in fulfilling the pledge to make the country self reliant,” home minister Amit Shah said.
Congratulating the new ministers, defence minister Rajnath Singh said that the entire ministry will “work in cohesion to strengthen the country and live by the promise of the government for growth”.
Congress slammed the Narendra Modi government’s ministerial expansion as “distribution of spoils of power, and defectors adjustment, expansion”, saying it had nothing to do with performance and governance, while Samajwadi Party called the large-scale reshuffle as an admission that the BJP government had failed on every front.
AICC spokesman Randeep Surjewala said if performance was a criteria, then defence minister Rajnath Singh should be sacked for Chinese invasion, home minister Amit Shah for continued terrorism and naxalism and mob lynching, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman for running the economy to the ground after the big growth curve under UPA. CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury called the creation of new “cooperation ministry” as another attack on federal structure.
