She's the former TV journalist-turned-podcaster who once called Channel Seven home - but can you guess who she is?

She is best known as the former host of one of Australia's top breakfast programs.

And on Thursday, she shared a throwback photo of herself on Instagram as a young school girl. 

'This is me at 12 years old,' she wrote in the caption, noting the image was taking before she had braces.

'If you'd asked me then what I thought 51 would be like, I probably would have said old!' she continued.

'Life after 50 had me imagining floral synthetic Osti dresses and sensible, low heeled shoes,' she added while asking her followers their thoughts on ageing.

The 51-year-old is best known for co-hosting Sunrise alongside long-time host David 'Kochie' Koch from 2002 to  2013.

She also hosted several of Seven's flagship programs, including Today Tonight, 7News, Sunday Night and The Latest.

Her departure is believed to be the result of the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has hit Seven particularly hard.

Aside from a successful and fulfilling professional career, the esteemed journalist is a doting family woman.

Last November, Melissa celebrated her 25th wedding anniversary with her sports marketing executive husband, John Dunlop, who she shares two children with - daughter Natalia, 17 and son Nick, 18.
