Nitin Gadkari

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha MP Narayan Rane has been appointed as the new Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Rane succeeds Nitin Gadkari, another senior BJP leader from Maharashtra.

While Indian citizens are eager to see how Rane performs in his new capacity, many are asking why wasn't Nitin Gadkari retained for the position.

Narayan Rane takes charge of the MSME Ministry at a crucial time as the sector has been among the most affected business segments amid the Covid pandemic. The sector has been among the core focus of the government in its financial support announcements made in the past one year, including a separate resolution framework for MSMEs.

The government came with the much-talked about loan guarantee scheme for MSMEs and other eligible borrowers to cushion the impact of the pandemic.

Netizens are not upset with the portfolio going to Rane. Rane has been serving the public in elected offices across different capacities for over 35 years now. Before that, he had served in the Income Tax Department from 1971 to 1984.

However, many are of the opinion that Gadkari, one the most successful minister in Narendra Modi’s first government, deserves a better portfolio. From Defence to Health, Gadkari's followers are demanding for a portfolio different than Road Transport and Highways.

Here's what people are saying. Have a look.
