Greater Noida: Work on the proposed Noida international airport is likely to begin soon.
TOI has learnt that the 1,334-hectare project land acquired by the GB Nagar administration for the Uttar Pradesh civil aviation department will be transferred to Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) — the UP government’s special purpose vehicle for the project — by next week.
However, a stamp duty of Rs 96 crore will be borne by the state government and all the three industrial authorities, which are the stakeholders. The foundation laying stone ceremony for the airport may take place by August-September, sources said.
While the state government and the Noida Authority will each bear 37.5% cost of the airport, GNIDA and YEIDA will each bear 12.5% cost. In the same proportion, the stamp duty charge will be shared by the four stakeholders.
Even as the three authorities have released their share of the funds for the airport project, the government is yet to release its part. For this, initial discussions were held on Tuesday between NIAL and Zurich International AG subsidiary Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL).
“YIAPL’s chief executive came on Tuesday to discuss various issues. The process of expediting airport construction work was one of the topics discussed, apart from land transfer and shifting of affected families of the acquired land to Jewar Bangar township which is in the final stages,” said YEIDA CEO Arun Vir Singh.
While sources claim that the Yogi government is keen to expedite work on the airport and may have a foundation laying ceremony in a couple of months, CEO Singh abstained from confirming any definite timeline for that.
