If you're a regular Twitter bug, then you must have noticed the word 'tantrik' i.e. occultist trending on Twitter. Wondering why such a word is trending? Here's why.
On Tuesday, Times Now reported a rape case that happened in from Gajraula town of Amroha in the Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh
The report states that a girl was allegedly gang-raped by a 'Tantrik' and his friends on the pretext of treating her for an unknown illness.
The victim's family filed a complaint at the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Meerut. The probe has now been handed over to the Circle Officer (Kotwali).
The report further states that the police are searching for the absconding 'tantrik' identified as Afzal Malik.
The report caught attention on Twitter when people pointed out that tantrik is not the suitable word for the accused Malik. People are alleging that the word tantrik is used for a Hindu occultist whereas Malik is a Muslim.
One Twitter user wrote, "AFZAL was the man ! TARIQ was the introducer ! Dear @TimesNow is it necessary to defame H!ndus by a sort headlines calling Afzal as the Tantrik!"
Here's what others are saying. Have a look.
