AP CM says Krishna water dispute should be resolved amicably

Anantapur, Jul 8 (UNI) Alleging that the Telangana state is generating hydel power when the water level in the river Krishna is below 796 feet, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy reiterated that the state has the right of drawing water from the PRP project and suggested that the dispute should be resolved amicably.

Addressing the 'YSR Rythu Dinotsavam' public meeting, organised at Rayadurgam in this district on Thursday, he said that Andhra Pradesh could draw water from PRP project when the water level in river Krishna is above 881 ft.

The water level at the Srisailam project stood above 881 feet for 20 to 25 days only a few times during the last 20 years, he claimed.

“When Telangana state is generating hydel power when the water level is below 796 feet, what is wrong, if AP draws water when the level is below 800 feet below to provide water to the Rayalaseema region through lift irrigation projects? What is wrong if we utilise our share in the Krishna water”, the Chief Minister defended.

“The Telangana state constructed Palamuru-Ranga Reddy lift irrigation project to draw Krishna water. The capacity of the Kalwakurthy project was increased to draw water when the level is below 800 feet. The Telangana state has the possibility of drawing Krishna water even when the water level is below 800 feet", he said.

Mr Reddy said “I have never interfered in the politics of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telangana states and will not in the future. The differences between AP and Telangana state on sharing of Krishna water should be resolved amicably”, he said.

He expressed anger on the leaders in Telangana state for making statements on the sharing of Krishna water as they like.

Dismissing former Chief Minister and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu’s allegation on the Krishna water issue, the Chief Minister asked what Mr. Naidu was doing when the Telangana state was constructing Palamuru-Rangareddy and Dindi projects to draw the Krishna water.
