Stanley Cup to Tom Brady: Don’t throw me

The Stanley Cup doesnt want a piece of Tom Brady.

The Buccaneers quarterback infamously tossed the Lombardi Trophy from his yacht to another boat during the teams Super Bowl celebration in February. Now, following the cross-town Tampa Bay Lightnings championship-clinching victory night, the Stanley Cup wants to ensure it avoids the same fate that befell its counterpart.

“FYI I’m too heavy to throw, @TomBrady,” the Stanley Cup’s official Twitter account posted Wednesday.

In a reply to its original tweet, the Stanley Cup also mentioned Rob Gronkowski, warning Tampa Bay’s tight end that the Cup is too difficult to catch, as well (despite the fact that fellow TE Cameron Brate was actually the one who caught the Lombardi Trophy).

Brady responded with a quote tweet, writing that “everything feels a bit lighter after some tequila.”

Though Brady made a perfect throw with his trophy, chucking the NHL’s ultimate prize would be a far more difficult feat. The Lombardi Trophy weighs seven pounds, paling in comparison to the Stanley Cup, which comes in at a hefty 34.5 pounds.

The audacious trophy toss wasn’t the only memorable part of Brady’s celebration. The 43-year-old needed assistance from an escort as he made his way back onto land after the boat docked. Afterwards, Brady poked fun at himself, tweeting: “Noting to see her…just litTle avoCado tequila.”
