Dr Bharati Pawar becomes 1st Union minister from Nashik

Nashik, Jul 7 (UNI) MP Dr Bharati Pawar, who was sworn in as a minister among 43 others (including four from Maharashtra) in the Narendra Modi-led NDA government in a simple ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Wednesday evening, is the first woman minister from Nashik district to get a berth in the rejigged Union Cabinet.
Besides Dr Pawar, Narayan Tautu Rane, Kapil Moreshwar Patil and Dr Bhagwat Kisanrao Karad were also inducted as ministers from Maharashtra.
Dr Pawar was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time from the Dindori (Nashik) constituency. She has become the first leader from the Nashik district to become a minister at the Centre.
Hailing from tribal Dalwat area in Kalvan taluka of the district, her in-laws are from Nashik. Her husband Praveen Pawar is an engineer by profession.
Her late father-in-law, A T Pawar, was the former Tribal minister and was a very popular leader known for his development works. He had represented the Kalvan assembly constituency five times in a row. He was twice appointed as Minister of State.
Continuing his legacy, Dr Bharti Pawar, a medical graduate from Bharti University at Pune, became a member of Zilla Parishad from Umrane and Manoor groups twice in a row.
She was an active and aggressive office-bearer of the women's front of the Nationalist Congress Party. She went on to become the state vice-president of NCP.
During the 2019 elections, Dr Pawar joined the BJP after she learnt that NCP was fielding an important candidate by sidelining her.
Immediately after joining BJP, the party gave her the Lok Sabha nomination and she became an MP and now a Cabinet minister at the Centre.
Apart from this, BJP has also given her the responsibility of the post of state vice-president.
Dr Pawar has a good understanding of the problem of malnutrition, which is found widely among tribals in the district.
She has built a large network of activists in the Dindori Lok Sabha constituency over last five years.
