Thongam Biswajit leads in planting saplings on Van Mahotsav

Works Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh today planted tree saplings at six different locations organised by the different departments under him as part of the weeklong celebration of Van Mahotsav - the Tree Planting Festival.
Addressing the media at one of the locations, Th Biswajit said that tree plantation will help in protecting the environment.
Tree planting events, he said, are being organised today by different state departments at different sites to encourage involvement of all employees and reaffirm the collective responsibility of all towards safeguarding and nurturing the nature.
The tree plantation programmes started at Lairenkabi, Phayeng along Imphal Kangchup Road organised by Public Works Department, Manipur.
Commissioner Works, T Ranjit Singh, Chief Engineer PWD, Manipur, Kh Temba Singh, Chief Engineer, NHs, PWD Manipur, T Rabindra Singh and officials concerned also planted saplings.
Project director of Internally Aided Projects of Public Works Department (PWD), Y Joykumar said that the plantation drive is being taken up to compensate the felling of trees due to the road repairing work under the aegis of Works Minister.
Around 100 saplings will be planted today and the steps will be taken up to plant saplings on the road side of Kangchup till Uripok and regarding the cause, PWD have deposited Rs 37 lakhs (Rupees thirty seven lakhs) to the Forest Department.
The next tree plantation programme was held at NH 150 Sabungkhok to Phayol under Sawombung Block organised by Rural Engineering Department (RED)/ MSRRDA Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Chief Engineer, (RED)/ MSRRDA Pantishing Thamei with staff attended the programme.
The Department of Textiles, Commerce & Industry also held the tree plantation at Trade and Expo Centre, Lamboikhongnangkhong in the presence of Minister attended by Commissioner Textiles, Commerce and Industry, RK Dinesh Singh, Director Textiles, Commerce and IndustryLourembam Bikram; Director Handlooms and Textiles Lamlee Kamei and officials concerned.
Later the Minister planted a tree sapling as part of the day's programme at the Office Complex of Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Keisampat along with Commissioner IPR M Joy, Additional Director W Phajatombi Devi, DDO, DIPR, L Ashok Kumar and officials concerned.
Biswajit Singh also planted tree sapling at Yurembam Power House organised by the Power Department.
Managing Director, MSPCL, N Sarat Singh; Managing Director MSPDCL Ng Subashchandra, and officials concerned attended the tree plantation programme.
The tree plantation programme concluded at the State Academy of Training Complex Takyelpat with plantation of sapling by Minister in the presence of Additional Chief Secretary Administration Reform/Director General, State Academy of Training, Shri Letkhogin Haokip along with officials of the academy.
Meanwhile, saplings were planted at Bedamani Ashram at Shanjenbam Lokchao Shantipur in Imphal East by the villagers led by Yumnam Chaoba Singh on the occasion of Van Mahotsav.
