CHENNAI: The Chennai city police have rescued a three-year-old girl child who was kidnapped from her home in J J Nagar on Monday by her mother’s stepbrother. The police rescued the girl from Tirupati in the early hours of Wednesday and arrested the kidnapper.
On Monday night, the police control room received a call from a 25-year-old woman who stated that a man known to her kidnapped her daughter on a two-wheeler. A hunt was launched for the suspect, Sathish Kumar, 32.
The man was traced to Tirupati with the help of the tower location of his mobile phone. The girl was rescued from him in the early hours of Wednesday.
Investigations revealed that both the accused and the girl’s mother were stepsiblings. His father has two wives. Sathish Kumar was born to one of them while the woman was born to the other.
The woman separated from her husband four years ago and developed an affair with Sathish Kumar, though he was her stepbrother. Recently, Sathish Kumar came to know that the woman was in a relationship with another man. He quarrelled with her demanding that she sever ties with the other man.
On Monday, he fought with her again and kidnapped her daughter since she refused to budge, police said.
The rescued girl child was given to her mother while Sathish Kumar was remanded in judicial custody.
