New cars in Europe could soon come with speed limiters. According to a report, mandatory speed limiters will be introduced in all cars sold from 2022.
Reports suggest that car brands will use different types of technologies ranging from GPS to street sign detection to ensure that the vehicles are under the speed limit.
Cars in Europe are said to feature a system called Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA). As mentioned before, this system will use GPS and street sign detection to ensure drivers maintain the speed limit at all times. If the system detects the car is exceeding the speed limit, it can use a range of different methods to slow it back down.
These methods include visual and audible warnings. The ISA, however, can also reduce engine power if required, or even make the accelerator pedal harder to push; in a bid to discourage drivers from exceeding the speed limit.
India also mandated the speed-warning feature across all new cars sold a couple of years back. However, the feature only offers audible warnings when the car exceeds a certain speed.
