Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane says he believes Gavin Hunt would be successful in North Africa after the former Kaizer Chiefs coach joined Chippa United.

Hunt was unveiled by the Chilli Boys as their new head coach on Wednesday to replace Lehlohonolo Seema, who has since joined Golden Arrows.

Hunt, who previously led SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits to league titles was sacked by Chiefs after a difficult season in which he was unable to make signings as a result of a FIFA ban.

He becomes Chippa's 30th coach in nine years and will need to hit the ground running next season to avoid the chop from boss Siviwe Mpengesi.

Mosimane opted to test his skills in Egypt after leaving Mamelodi Sundowns and would have liked to have seen his old sparring partner join him up north.

He said on KickOff: "A job is a job as long as you are coaching in football, I agree with Gavin, just coach, just coach football but that's life, that's how it is. For me, he's one of the most successful coaches in South Africa.

"I've had battles with him on the pitch and he's been a decent guy, okay we've had jabs here and there because if we fight for the league title with me you know there's going to be mind games a little bit. But he controlled it well and gave a team [Bidvest Wits] a league title after 100 years.

"I believe coach Gavin Hunt can coach in North Africa, no doubt, no doubt about. But he opted for Chippa, that's his life."
