Alan Jones calls for Australian politicians to have their salaries cut to ZERO after failing to end relentless cycle of Covid lockdowns

  • Alan Jones has called for politicians pay to be scrapped during lockdowns
  • The outspoken conservative commentator called for Sydney region to reopen
  • He slammed Premier Gladys Berejiklian, calling her 'nothing short of a disgrace'
  • Sydney's lockdown is estimated to be costing $1billion-a-week to businesses

Alan Jones has unleashed on Australia's 'contemptible' leaders, calling for all politicians' pay to be scrapped until the nation ends its relentless campaign of coronavirus lockdowns.

The outspoken Sky News host took aim at several political figures including NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Victorian leader Dan Andrews, as he launched a tirade against Covid 'fear peddling'.

His fiery rant comes on the same day five million residents in Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Wollongong and the Shellharbour region were told stay-at-home orders already in place for almost two weeks would be extended for at least another seven days.

The lockdown is estimated to cost businesses an eye-watering $1billion-a-week, with many fearing their shops, cafes and restaurants may not survive.

As a result, all residents of NSW are living under some form of restrictions until at least July 16, including mandatory masks and only five visitors round at a home, with dancing banned and 50 per cent capacity at major events.

In Sydney, the restrictions are even harsher with only four lawful reasons to leave home including work, essential shopping, exercise and medical care.

'While we let them keep going they will continue on their power surge and we will pay,' Jones, who is fiercely opposed to lockdown restrictions, said.

His solution to solve the problem is to 'suspend all political salaries until the lockdown ends'.

'Those of us who give a voice to the voiceless are not going to fall in line just because you are Mr Prime Minister or Ms Premier,' he said.

'The government might listen to bureaucrats but they don't listen to those who pay their bloated salaries.'

Jones called Ms Berejiklian's announcement 'nothing short of a disgrace' after she boasted back in May that NSW had put systems in place to make sure there would be no more lockdowns.

'While we have suffered this idiocy, this inaccuracy, dishonesty, unscientific pronouncements everyday, Gladys Berejiklian forfeits the right to lead and to run the state,' he said.

'When she talks about the Delta strain being a game changer she's placing alarmism over truth... and it's contemptible behaviour.'

Jones argued that influenza deaths are comparable to the number of Covid fatalities with 705 flu deaths in 2019 out of 300,000 cases, compared to 910 coronavirus fatalities stemming from 30,000 infections since the pandemic hit Australian shores in early 2020.

'Were there lockdowns, mandatory masks, border closures, businesses ruined, egotistical power hungry Premiers and a Prime Minister locking the country down and talking about how we wouldn't return to normal for years?' Jones said of the influenza figures.

'Stop hyperventilating over Covid cases and think about the people right now who are hyperventilating over how they are going to pay their mortgage, their bills, their wages, their kids' school fees.'

SYDNEY'S LOCKDOWN: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW UNTIL JULY 16

Those living in Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Shellharbour and Wollongong must abide by the following:
