Amritsar: A socio-economic survey under the 24x7 water supply project initiated by the state government in collaboration with World Bank to supply clean drinking water to residents and save underground water will start from Wednesday. Anurag Mahajan, Superintending Engineer (O&M), MC, said: “The survey is being conducted through AFC India Ltd. Residents, shopkeepers and street vendors, residing in various parts of the city where the new pipeline is to be laid will participate. People should cooperate with the team.” There’s presence of arsenic, heavy metals and high-nitrate content in water being supplied at present. Keeping these things in mind, this project has been started for round-the-clock supply of water in the city from the Upper Bari Doab Canal. Moreover, canal water does not contain heavy metals and a treatment plant would be set up in Valla to clean water. tns
