BHOPAL: The home department has decided to provide services of its jawans to the mining department and help curb illegal mining. The orders were issued on Wednesday.
To start with, 248 home guards have been deployed with the mining department on Wednesday. Numbers of home guards have been decided on the demand of the mining department.
The step comes after several incidents of attack on mining officials across the state were reported. Mining officials had complained to the senior officials that they had to largely depend upon the security provided by the police to discharge their duties. Police protection is sought for operations against illegal mining.
Nevertheless, now home guards will be deployed permanently with the mining officials and dependence on the police will be reduced. The move will also boost the confidence of mining officials. Moreover, now mining officials will not have to wait for the police to start an operation against illegal mining or to verify inputs from sources.
More than a dozen incidents of attack on mining officials have been reported in the past three months across the state, most of them from the Chambal region.
