Hyderabad, Jul 7 (UNI) Union Minister of state for Home Affairs Gangapuram Kishan Reddy was elevated to Cabinet Rank in the expansion held on Wednesday evening due to his sheer hard work.
He was sworn in as Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs on May 30, 2019.
Mr Reddy was representing Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency since May 2019 after getting elected on BJP ticket.
Born on June 15, 1964 at Timmapur village in Rangareddy district of Telangana to G. Swamy Reddy and Andalamma, the Minister did a diploma in tool design from CITD.
The 57-year-old had served as the floor leader of the BJP in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 2009 and gave it up after being elected as the state BJP president of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh.
Mr Reddy started his career as a youth leader in the late nineties. He was elected as National President of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha from 2002 to 2005.
The Union Minister was elected as an MLA from Himayatnagar constituency in 2004 and was elected again in 2009 & 2014 to Amberpet assembly constituency.
Mr Reddy lost the Assembly election to TRS candidate Kaleru Venkatesham in December 2018.
He was unanimously elected as the Telangana BJP president succeeding the present Himachal Pradesh Governor Bandaru Dattatreya.
Considering the increase in demand for local public transport, he wrote a letter to Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, urging him to resume MMTS services in the city
Reddy started his political career as youth leader of the Janata Party in 1977. Once the BJP was formed in 1980, he joined the party full time. He became the state treasurer of the state Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, Andhra Pradesh. Since then he has served in various capacities designated to him in the party.
His is married to G Kavya and has two children.
