Movies Live Blog: Dilip Kumar to be laid to rest with full state honours

“Kalinga is with us. Dilip Ji’s first and last directorial film is an encyclopedia for any filmmaker to see the way he has shot the film” states film producer Sangeeta Ahir speaking to ETimes, after the demise of legendary actor Dilip Kumar.

Dilip Kumar's Shakti co-actor is extremely crestfallen that the Thespian is no more.Talking exclusively to Etimes, Raakhee said, "Dilip saab suffered a lot. This life in his past many years was very painful. He is finally resting in peace. I feel very sad for Sairaji, she has been left all alone."

Legendary actor Dilip Kumar's demise has left the country shocked and distressed. The 'Tragedy King' was admitted to Hinduja Hospital where he breathed his last due to prolonged illness.Friends and family of the beloved Dilip Kumar have been expressing their grief since then and among them is a veteran actor Ashok Saraf.

Gulshan Grover is one of the blessed actors in Bollywood who has had the opportunity to work with the late legendary actor Dilip Kumar. Mourning the loss of the veteran star, Gulshan Grover exclusively told ETimes, “We have lost a legend today. It is definitely the end of an era. I have had the privilege and the honour to have worked with him in ‘Saudagar’, ‘Qila’, ‘Mashaal’ and many other films. Just working with him has been a learning experience. This holds true for every actor out there. He was an institution.”

In a tweet, the actress wrote, "Every now & then some individuals come along who single-handedly alter the present & write history... One such legend was Dilip saab for the world of cinema. I was fortunate to have spent some time with him both on & off-screen and I'll cherish those memories forever. Praying for the peace of his departed soul & my heartfelt condolence to the family."

Popularly known as the ‘Tragedy King’ of Bollywood, Dilip Kumar, passed away today at the age of 98. Bombay Times spoke with actor, filmmaker and politician Hema Malini, who got emotional talking about the late actor who she never got an opportunity to be paired opposite him in movies.

His co-star in five acclaimed films, Waheeda Rehman remembers the legendary Dilip Kumar with fond memories. Speaking to ETimes she reveals, “It is a very sad news but it was bound to happen. He had been suffering for so long. I have done five films with him and it was a fantastic experience, he was not only a good actor but a huge star. He was a very intense actor especially in tragic scenes, he used to be very good even without uttering a word. He could express his pain so well and yet, he was good in comedy, too. It was a great experience working with him the industry and the entire country will miss him. But that's life, what to do.”

Dilip Kumar, who passed away on Wednesday, was shooting for ‘Sagina Mahato’ in Darjeeling years back. Tapan Sinha had advised the thespian to shed his method acting for a particular shot and Dilip Kumar obeyed and leaped like a child in joy as a toy train passed by. Canning the shot in one take, Tapan Sinha exclaimed, “Well done Yusuf!”

"An institution has gone," said Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, in a tweet as he mourned the demise of legendary actor, Dilip Kumar.
