Chandigarh, July 7 (UNI) The BJP-JJP government is troubling the farmers by repeatedly altering the rules of tubewell connections, former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda said on Wednesday.
He said that despite the advance recovery of crores of rupees from the farmers, the government is looking for excuses for not giving them connections. Sometimes the condition of buying a company specific motor is imposed on the farmers, and sometimes not to provide tubewell connection in the irrigation area. Now the condition of adopting micro-irrigation system for tubewell connection has been imposed by the Electricity Corporation in many areas.
The former chief minister said that during his government, tubewell connections were given to farmers for free or at nominal cost. But, thousands of rupees are taken in advance in the BJP government. Still the connections are not given to the farmers.
Raising the issue of power crisis once again, Hooda said that despite repeated demands and demonstrations by the people, the BJP - JJP government is not ready to solve the ongoing power crisis in the state. People troubled by the shortage of electricity and water in the state are protesting by taking to the streets at different places. But, the government is not ready to understand their problem. The claim of the government to provide 24 hours electricity is proving to be a jumla. The government claims that there is surplus electricity in the state , but the question is why it is not being supplied to people's homes.
The former Chief Minister has said that due to lack of foresight in the BJP government, the people of the state are facing power crisis today. During the Congress government, he installed 4 new power plants in Yamunanagar, Khedar, Jharli and Khanpur Khurd in the state. With this, the nuclear power plant in Gorakhpur, Fatehabad, under the Indo-US Atomic Energy Agreement, was approved during the Congress government. During his tenure, Haryana was made self-reliant in terms of power generation. But not a single new power plant was established in the state during the BJP government. Not only this, the BJP government also closed many units of power plants set up during the Congress government. This is the reason why today people are not getting electricity as per their requirement.
Mr Hooda said that today the long power cuts and the shocks of inflation have made the life of the common man difficult. Therefore, now the farmers and the Congress have once again decided to take to the streets in protest against inflation. During the last assembly session too, we took to the streets to protest against the rising petrol and diesel prices. Their demand is that along with the central government, the state government should also give relief to the people of the state by cutting tax (VAT). Because due to the increase in the price of oil, the cost of everything including agriculture, transport has increased.
