Ashok Leyland, a leading commercial vehicle
manufacturer in India, has announced the formation of an Environmental, Social
& Governance (ESG) Committee which will be headed by an Independent
Director.
This new ESG Committee will provide
oversight in the Company’s journey on leading ESG practices, initiatives, and
prioritizes at the organization level. According to Dheeraj Hinduja, Chairman,
Ashok Leyland, the company is pleased to form this new ESG Committee of the
Board. He also said that the committee will help to adopt the leading ESG
practices into the business. This will bring added focus to the social
responsibility and sustainability of the company. The aim of the company is to
give more opportunities to the communities, businesses, and people.
As per Vipin Sondhi, MD & CEO, Ashok
Leyland, the vision of the company is ‘To be a Top 10 Global CV Player’. He
also said that the company wants to be socially responsible also. The company
is running strong for 70 years and is working for the good of its customers,
investors, value chain partners, and employees, communities. The foundation of
the company is Sustainability. He also said that the formation of this
Committee will propel the efforts of the company in taking the ESG agenda
ahead.
As per Jose Maria Alapont, Independent
Director, Ashok Leyland, the committee will offer guidance
to the company’s commitment towards Corporate Social Responsibility,
environment, corporate governance, and other public policy matters that are
relevant to the company.
The ESG initiative will be taken care of by
N V Balachander who is the President of ESG. He will lead the sustainability
agenda within the Company.
