Union Cabinet expansion: Ravi Shankar Prasad, Prakash Javdekar, Harsh Vardhan, Ramesh Pokhriyal and others resign ahead of oath-taking

With 43 new ministers to be inducted into the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union Cabinet today evening, Union Ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad, Prakash Javdekar, Harsh Vardhan, Ramesh Pokhriyal and eight others have resigned.

The President of India has accepted the resignation of 12 members of the Council of Ministers including IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank and others, read a statement from the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The others to resign ahead of the oath-taking are Thawarchand Gehlot, D. V. Sadananda Gowda, Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Babul Supriyo, Sanjay Dhotre, Rattan Kataria, Rattan Lal Kataria, Partap Chandra Sarangi and Debasree Chaudhuri.

Meanwhile, the new Cabinet is a mix of youth and those who come with rich administrative experience, including former chief ministers. There is also a good mix of experienced professionals with 13 lawyers, six doctors, five engineers, seven civil servants, seven with research degrees and three with degrees in business. It also cuts across castes and religions. Reportedly, there will be 27 OBC ministers, 12 from SC, 8 from ST categories. There will be one Muslim, one Sikh, one Christian and two Buddhist ministers.
